Bright colour and reflective trim can improve visibility when light reaches the jacket, but neither guarantees visibility in darkness, poor weather or disturbed water. Keep the dog within immediate reach.

The product is described for novice and experienced swimmers. This does not mean every dog can swim safely. Introduce water gradually and stop if the dog shows panic, weakness, breathing difficulty or exhaustion.

3. Consider shoulder width, chest depth and torso length.
4. Open the straps and centre the jacket near the base of the neck.
5. Secure the neck section, belly band and buckles.
6. Adjust the fit without restricting breathing or movement.
7. Test the jacket first in shallow, calm water.

Outward Hound’s fitting guidance describes a secure fit that still allows approximately two fingers between the dog and the jacket. Roll and secure loose strap ends so they do not trail or catch.

Check that the jacket remains centred when the dog walks, sits and enters shallow water. It should not rotate, slide over the head or leave large gaps beneath the belly band.

Begin where the dog can stand and move voluntarily. Do not throw or push a dog into the water. Support the dog until its response and the jacket’s fit are understood.

Rinse away salt, sand, chlorine or dirt after use. Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, then air dry fully before storage.

Recheck the fit after weight, coat or body-condition changes. A jacket that fitted previously may no longer be secure.
