Ivermectin belongs to the macrocyclic lactone chemical group, while clorsulon belongs to the sulphonamide group. Virbamec L is supplied as an injectable solution and must not be diluted or mixed with other substances.

For external parasites in cattle, the product kills specified sucking lice and mange mites, controls sand tampans for up to three days after treatment, kills cattle screw worms present at treatment and protects against screw-worm strikes for two weeks. It controls blue ticks when treatment is repeated every 21 days as directed.

In sheep, it kills sheep scab mites and controls Australian itch mites. Sheep scab is a notifiable disease, and suspected or confirmed outbreaks must be treated under government supervision.

For cattle, the official persistence periods vary according to the parasite. Control is listed for 14 days against wireworm and bankruptworm, 21 days against brown stomachworm, nodular worm and lungworm, while no persistence period is listed for hookworm or eyeworm.

Virbamec L can be used in breeding animals. Dose according to current body mass and use properly maintained injection equipment so the correct quantity is delivered.

This product is for animal use only and carries a caution classification. It should be administered by a person familiar with livestock injection technique and the label directions.

Directions and Warnings

Cattle: Inject subcutaneously under the loose skin in front of or behind the shoulder, or administer intramuscularly, at 1ml per 50kg body mass.

Sheep: Inject subcutaneously only at 1ml per 50kg body mass. Suitable sites include the loose skin behind the shoulder, under the foreleg or on the inside of the thigh. Ensure the needle penetrates the skin before delivering the dose.

  • Do not administer intravenously.
  • Do not administer intramuscularly in sheep.
  • Do not dilute or mix with other substances.
  • Use sterile equipment and follow aseptic procedures.
  • Do not use in lactating cattle or sheep when milk is intended for human consumption.
  • Do not use in dairy cattle within 28 days before calving when milk is intended for human consumption.
  • Cattle and sheep must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 28 days of treatment.
  • Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals.
  • Do not reuse empty containers.
  • Wash hands after use and do not eat, drink or smoke while handling the product.

Store below 25Β°C and protect the bottle from sunlight. Free ivermectin may adversely affect fish and certain waterborne organisms, so containers and remaining product must be disposed of safely.
