Lectade is supplied as a powder in twin sachets marked A and B. Both sections are used together to prepare the complete treatment solution. The standard mixing instruction is one paired sachet in two litres of lukewarm water.

The prepared solution is given orally according to the species, age and reason for use. Clean equipment and fresh water should be used during preparation to reduce contamination.

Diarrhoea can quickly cause serious fluid and electrolyte losses, particularly in young animals. Early recognition and correct rehydration support are important, but veterinary diagnosis may still be needed to identify infectious, nutritional or management-related causes.

Composition

Each twin sachet consists of two separate powder sections that must be combined when preparing the standard oral solution.

Dextrose provides a readily available energy source, while the electrolyte component supports replacement of salts lost with body fluids. Glycerine also contributes to the energy and fluid-support profile of the prepared solution.

Do not use only one section of the twin sachet unless specifically instructed by a veterinarian. Sachets A and B are designed to be used together to prepare the complete product.

The composition and concentration should not be altered by adding extra powder or reducing the water volume. Prepare the solution according to the current product label and the directions appropriate to the animal species.

Directions & Warnings

For the standard solution, mix the entire contents of one paired sachet A and B with two litres of lukewarm water. Use clean mixing and feeding equipment.

Bought-in calves:
Give two litres of prepared Lectade solution instead of milk as the first feed after arrival. For the second feed, mix one litre of Lectade solution with one litre of milk or milk replacer. Normal feeding can then resume.

Scouring calves:
When diarrhoea begins, withdraw milk or milk replacer and give two litres of prepared solution twice daily for two days. For the following four feeds, give one litre of Lectade solution mixed with one litre of milk or milk replacer. Normal feeding can then resume. Severe dehydration requires veterinary attention.

Suckling piglets:
Prepare fresh solution when signs of diarrhoea appear and make it available to the entire litter in a clean cube drinker or similar suitable vessel.

Lambs and kids:
Use the prepared solution to support fluid and electrolyte replacement following diarrhoea and to encourage fluid intake in cases of starvation around lambing or kidding. Follow the current label or veterinary instructions for the animal’s age and condition.

Sheep:
For pregnancy toxaemia support, dissolve the contents of sachets A and B in 200ml of water and administer with a drenching bottle. Repeat at intervals of four to eight hours when necessary.

Foals and horses:
Foals may be offered one paired sachet dissolved in four litres of drinking water. Where administration by stomach tube is required, this must be performed by a veterinarian or suitably trained professional. Older horses may be offered one to two paired sachets daily in drinking water.
